Carrying On
Troops with the U.N. Multinational Security Support mission have arrived in Port-au-Prince (PAP). Unfortunately, not much progress has been made in subduing the gangs that have overtaken the capital during the past 3-4 years. Recent reports indicate that they are having difficulty holding territory that they have taken back from gangs. This is not too surprising, given the small size of the mission and the depleted Haitian police force.
Our staff member, Jules, lives and works in an area recently taken over by gangs. You can read more in this article about life in his area. Please pray for Jules’ safety as he seeks to continue to help with the projects in Haiti H2O’s partner villages. As you can imagine, daily life is stressful and dangerous. Fleeing involves forfeiting all you have built or worked for over a lifetime, as well as your means of providing for your family.
In the countryside, security is not as dire. Inflation and mass migration from the capital are stretching the resources of our remote village partners. However, the leaders of our partner churches remain committed to serving their communities. They continue to organize Mobile Medical Clinics, work on construction projects like the repair of the school in Bassin Caiman and homes in St. Martin, and operate micro-businesses like bakeries and the corn grinding mill. They are able to sustain this work thanks to people like you who donate regularly or participate in our fundraising events. Thank you for standing with Haiti H2O and our partners in Haiti, even in the midst of such great turmoil. You are making a difference in the lives of Haitians in four remote villages!
