There are no doctors in the villages where we partner.
At the request of local leaders, Haiti H2O has organized many short-term medical clinics with doctors and nurses from both Haiti and the U.S.
The village churches host the clinic, with members preparing for and working alongside our medical team to care for their community.
The needs are often overwhelming, with an average of 250 patients a day.
People walk from miles around to see the visiting doctors and nurses. The conditions range from acute to chronic — hernias, infections, malnutrition, hypertension, and diabetes are the most common.
After one of these clinics, the American medical team saw the need for a longer-term solution.
After talking with the community and our Haitian partner Dr. Sony, a program was created to provide more consistent care in the remote villages where we partner.
Sustainable Healthcare Solutions
Quarterly medical clinics provide more consistent care.
In 2021, the community of Plain Matin began hosting a quarterly medical clinic with our Haitian partner, Dr. Sony and a team of 2-3 Haitian nurses.
Quarterly timing allows the medical team to give 90-day prescriptions for common long-term conditions like diabetes and hypertension. Left untreated, these illnesses often lead to strokes and heart attacks.
Since 2022, Haiti H2O has been able to include Bassin Caiman and St. Martin in our mobile clinic program. This expansion benefits many in rural Haiti where there are no doctors.
