But in Bassin Caiman, the women had to walk 10 miles, one way, to bake or buy the bread that would fill hungry bellies.
In partnership with Bassin Caiman, the Bread Oven micro-business was completed in 2005. This business employs 12-13 people who take turns baking bread that the women sell in their area for a profit. These extra earnings can be used to pay for school, medical care, and other needs that were previously out of reach.
